Add Feedjit Live Traffic Feed to Blogger

Would you like to know more about the traffic visiting your Blogger blog (Blogspot Blog)? Feedjit is a free  tracking tool that tracks visitors to a blog in real time and identifies what pages are visited. In this Blogger tutorial you will learn how to add a Feedjit widget to your blog which will track where visitors originate from and what pages they viewed. Adding a Feedjit widget to your Blogger blog is easy and takes less than 5 minutes. This tutorial is suitable for all Blogger bloggers (Blogspot beginners). Updated 10 October 2009.

Feedjit monitors traffic to your site and ranks it based on popularity and relevance against the traffic received by other Feedjit users in your local area. There is a choice of 4 different widgets: Live Traffic Feed, Live Traffic Map, Recommended Reading, and Page Popularity. Each of these widgets has different functions.

Feedjit Live Traffic Feed Widget for Blogger

Places a widget on your Blogger blog of the last 10 visitors. By clicking on the real time link you can actually view the last 50 or so visitors along with the keyword search phrase used to find your site. The Feedjit's Live Traffic Feed shows statistics in real-time about:

The city and country your visitors are in

The website they arrived from, if any

The page they visited on your website

Which external link they clicked to leave your site, if any

Feedjit Traffic Map

The Traffic Map widget places visitors to your site on a world map according to their physical location

Feedjit Recommended Reading

The Recommended Reading widget makes suggestions to visitors about what other blog posts they might be interested in based on general page popularity

Feedjit Page Popularity

The Page Popularity widget lists the 10 most popular pages that have been accessed by visitors on that day.

How to Add a Feedjit Live Traffic Feed Widget (Gadget) to Blogger
  1. Visit Feedjit
  2. Select Live Traffic Feed.
  3. Click on the Customize It link under Live Traffic Feed. This will allow you to enter colors to match the theme of your blog. If you are in doubt I have found that the easiest method to get the custom colors of a site is to go to the Layout > Page Elements screen in Blogger and click on Add a Gadget and then Adsense. From the configuration screen that pops up you can get the colors of the background, border, title (heading in Feedjit), URL, text. If you use these same colors in your Feedjit widget it will blend in with the rest of your site. You can preview your widget to make sure it looks as you would like it before adding it to your blog.
  4. To automatically add the widget to Blogger select the Click to Add to Blogger Link and follow the instructions. Or to manually add it which I myself prefer right click the code in the box under the heading Live Traffic Feed and select copy.
  5. Navigate to Layout > Page Elements in your blog if that page is not already open
  6. Select Add a Gadget in the Sidebar and then HTML/Javascript
  7. Paste the code by placing the mouse in the box and right clicking and selecting paste
  8. Save the widget and then using the drag and drop feature of Blogger move it to your desired location. Note HTML/Javascript widgets are best placed after your other widgets for faster loading.
  9. Save Template
  10. Click on View Blog to view your newly created Feedjit widget
  11. Click on Options in the Feedjit widget and then Ignore My Browser otherwise the widget will record your visit each time you view your blog. The option on the widget will now change to Stop Ignoring Me which you can reverse by clicking on the link again. If you use more than one browser you will need to tell Feedjit to ignore you for each browser.

This Blogger tutorial has discussed how to add a Feedjit Live Traffic Feed widget, gadget or button to Blogger to track where visitors are being directed from and what posts they are most interested in. A Feedjit Live Traffic Feed will help you learn about the visitors to your blog and what search phrase they used to arrive. To add a Feedjit Live Traffic Feed widget to Blogger is simple and takes less than 5 minutes to install.

Submit Your Blogspot Blog to Yahoo

One of the most important ways to attract traffic to your site is to ensure that your Blogger (Blogspot) blog is properly indexed by popular search engines such as Yahoo. If you want to increase your chances of having your site quickly indexed by the Yahoo search engine it pays to submit your site and your feed. In this tutorial we will be covering the process of signing up with Yahoo, authenticating your site and adding your site feed to Yahoo Site Explorer.

Yahoo can be notoriously slow at indexing and will not necessarily include all crawled pages in its search results. For guaranteed inclusion you can opt for a paid service but if you follow the steps below you have a good chance of having your Blogger blog properly indexed relatively quickly and without any cost.

1. Sign up for a free Yahoo Account if you don't already have one.

2. Sign in to Yahoo Site Explorer where you will be taken to the MySites page.

3. Submit your Blogger website by entering the URL of your blog and then clicking on the Add My Site button.
 4. You will now see your website address included in the site list. The 3 columns to the right contain information about feeds, actions, and status. You will notice that the status of your site will be set to new (represented by a yellow circle). Click on the link to your site or click the Explore button.

5. You will be taken to the results page and should get a message like the one pictured below.

 6. From the menu on the left click on the Authentication

7. You will be presented with 2 authentication options. Choose Add a META Tag from the dropdown menu then copy the code provided using Ctrl + C.

8. In a new window of your browser login to your Blogger blog. Keep the window of Site Explorer open as we will be returning.

9. Navigate to Layout > Edit HTML in your Blogger (Blogspot) blog

10. When you arrive at the Template page it is a good idea to make a backup of your site's template as a precaution. Go ahead and download it your computer by clicking on the Download Template link. Remember if you inadvertently overwrite some code you may not be able to restore your template so it is worth taking an extra few moments to do this step.

11. Once you have backed up your site locate the Head tag. It will be only a few lines of code down from the top. Now insert the copied code from Yahoo in the position suggested as shown in the picture below using the Ctrl + V command.
 12. Once you have pasted the code into the template there is still one further action needed. You will need to add a trailing slash at the end of the new line of code to avoid getting a parse error. Once you have added the trailing slash and are certain you have placed the code in the correct position go ahead and click on the Save Template button.
 3. Return to Yahoo Site Explorer and follow the mysite link. You will see that the status of your site has been verified and is represented by a green checkmark.

14. From the lefthand menu select Feeds. You will be taken to the feeds page where you can go ahead and add a feed for your blog by entering the URL of the feed. Notice in the example below I have set an extra parameter to handle redirection of the feed by services such as Feedburner.
 15. Once the feed has been accepted it takes around 24 hours before it is active. After this time and provided there are no errors Yahoo displays "processed" followed by a green tick as can be seen in the picture below.
You have now completed the steps involved in having your Blogger (Blogspot) blog crawled and indexed by Yahoo. All that is left to do is to check back periodically to see if Yahoo has indexed your pages. This process can take time so don't expect overnight results. However once Yahoo recognises your feed your pages will be regularly crawled and any updates in content indexed. The process of adding a feed and verifying your site will have gone a long way towards ensuring your site is included in Yahoo search engine results.

In this tutorial you have learned how to submit your Blogger (Blogspot) blog to Yahoo Site Explorer by authenicating your site and adding a feed which Yahoo can use as a sitemap to improve its indexing of your pages.

How to Increase Google Adsense Earnings by Knowing Competitive Ad Filter

How to Increase Google Adsense Earnings by Knowing Competitive Ad Filter. Till date i firmly believe that Google Adsense is the best way to earn money online, people who are using Google Adsense might have noticed that, in every month there is one thing frequently happens in almost all of our sites or blogs and which lasts for 1 or almost 5 days. And that is Google pay you very low for the displaying ads, so you will notice significant decrease in eCPM (effective cost per thousand impression) and CPC (cost per click) for that period of time

What is Competitive Ad Filter?
Google AdSense provides the functionality to block specific ads from appearing on your pages. Although Google ads are highly targeted to the content of your page, there may be situations in which you don't want to display particular advertisements - for example, you may wish to block ads leading to competitors' sites.

- The competitive ad filter works by blocking ads that link to specific URLs. This way, you can easily block all ads that are linked to your competitor at www.example.com. By entering a top level domain such as www.example.com, you'll also block all ads that link to subdirectories below that domain.

Using the Competitive Ad Filter

- In 5 easy steps below, I'll show you how to set up your competitive ad filter from within your AdSense account.

   1. To edit your filter list, sign in to your AdSense account.
   2. Click the AdSense Setup tab.
   3. Click the Competitive Ad Filter link. This page will display the URLs currently being filtered for your account.

Choose the appropriate product sub-tab and click Add / Edit Sites.
Copy the URL from the ad into your filter list. There are a couple of ways to find this URL - both methods are described here, you need to just right click on Ad,and copy url of that code (Never click on your own ads to find url)
  1. http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/aclk?sa=L&ai=Brbbwb8xhTbntEpK7cJ33_dAPtcXO9QHVnaSvG6XKk_Jj4MUIEAEYASCo5fgKOABQorWH_wNg5dLkg6gOsgETd3d3LmdlZWtibG9nZ2VyLm9yZ7oBCjI1MHgyNTBfYXPIAQLaARtodHRwOi8vd3d3LmdlZWtibG9nZ2VyLm9yZy-pAokEKpeaQbs-wAIBqAMBsAOSlaAGyAMV6APxA-gDuwLoA-EF9QMCAADA&num=1&sig=AGiWqtyvh6bIGVHLaUNWVMIh9yoFCTzSrw&client=ca-pub-5820705378592492&adurl=http://www.RentAnEdu.co.uk&nm=6

    - It would look like something given above and you need to find addurl portion and you will get the url of the low performing ads. Just add the url in the block list sites.
  2. Click Save Changes to add these sites to your competitive ad filter. It usually takes about 30 minutes for your changes to take effect, so you'll continue to see ads for these sites on your pages for a little while. If filtered ads are still appearing after a day, please contact Google Adsense Team.

How Can I Use a Custom Domain on My Blogger?

Interested in purchasing and setting up a custom domain through Blogger? Either read the instructions below or click on the video to watch a tutorial!

You can buy a domain from the Settings | Publishing tab,. Just select the Custom Domain option, enter the domain name you'd like and click Check Availability. This will take you to the Google Apps domain purchase website, which will let you know if the domain is available and proceed with the registration if it is. Finally, you'll go to Google Checkout where you'll make your payment. Your domain is registered with one of our registration partners, either eNom or GoDaddy.

You'll get a domain registration confirmation email from Google Apps. Clicking the link in this email allows you to sign this domain up for an Apps account. Google Checkout will also send you an email with the order receipt.

Update the DNS Settings
DNS stands for Domain Name System, and a DNS server determines what site a given address takes you to. So far, you have a domain name but none of the servers on the internet know what to do with it yet. To take care of this, you need to do two things:

    * Create a CNAME record for your blog's address, which should be a subdomain of the form www.example.com.

To create a CNAME record for your domain with the DNS, associating your domain with: ghs.google.com. The exact procedure for doing this varies depending on your domain registrar, but you can find instructions for many common registrars here. If yours isn't listed, or if you run into other difficulties, you can contact your registrar directly and they'll be able to help you out.

    * Create 'A' NAME records for your naked domain (blog.com)

Note: The following information applies to naked domains only!! If you're setting up a subdomain then this does NOT apply to you! :-)

Creating A records for your naked domain is important as it allows Google to redirect people who use in your naked domain name (blog.com) to your blog page (www.example.com). If you do not do this, visitors who leave off the www will see an error page.

There are four separate A records you will create, and can be done from the same control panel you accessed your CNAME records. Simply point your naked domain (example.com, without the 'www') to each of the following IP addresses:

216.239.32.21
216.239.34.21
216.239.36.21
216.239.38.21
Your DNS setup is now complete!

Update Your Blogger Settings
Almost done! At this point, you have a domain name, and the DNS servers know to direct people to Google when they want to see your blog. But Google hosts lots of blogs, so we have to make sure the right one is associated with this domain. You'll do this on the Settings | Publishing tab for your blog in Blogger.
If you're publishing on Blog*Spot, you'll see a link near the top offering to switch you to a custom domain. Go ahead and click that link.
Now the only thing left to do is to tell everybody about your new address!
Notes:
  • If your new domain isn't taking you to your blog, wait another day or two to make sure all the DNS servers have been updated. If it still isn't working, contact your registrar to make sure you entered the DNS settings correctly.
  • Your original Blog*Spot address will automatically forward to your new domain. That way, any existing links or bookmarks to your site will still work.
  • You can use this feature with domains (e.g. example.com) or subdomains (e.g. blog.example.com). However, you cannot specify subdirectories (e.g. example.com/blog/) or wildcards (e.g. *.example.com).
  • Your posted images will continue to display on your blog as described here

Newsletter is a good option when you want to send custom mails to your Blog readers. It lets you send content rich HTML emails to your readers. Its not like the Feedburner Email Subscription (which just sends post updates via email at regular intervals) .You will be able to compose and send the newsletter at any time. Here are the steps to enable and send Newsletters.

1. Go to http://google.com/friendconnect and login there

2. Click on your Blog Name from the Left Pane.(If your Blog is not already there, then add it)

5. Customize the Colors and other Options and Click on the Generate Code Button and Copy the Code from there.

6. You need to add this Code to your website. If you are using Blogger, then Go to the Layout > Page Elements and Click on the Add a Gadget Link

Opt for HTML/JavaScript Gadget

And paste the copied Code into the Box which appears and Save the Gadget

7. Now your Blog readers will be able to subscribe to your Newsletters.

When you have enough subscribers, you can compose the Newsletter from the Compose newsletters tab, when you are done with creating the newsletter, Click on the Preview and send newsletter button and Click on the Send newsletter button from the popup preview window. You can see how many recipients will receive the newsletter. (In my case it is Total recipients: 539 as shown in the screenshot)

Insert Google AdSense Ads Units Between Posts

You will likely notice and see a Google AdSense ad unit in medium rectangle ad format located in between first and second blog posts. Blogger.com, a popular blogging platform, now has the ability to allow Blogger users to add AdSense ads in between their posts using Show Ads Between Posts feature.

To put and show AdSense ads units between posts in Blogger template is very easy, in fact, users not even need to know any HTML code programming knowledge. Just follow step-by-step instructions at the below guide.

Sign into Blogger account.

At Blogger Dashboard, click on Settings link listed behind “Manage” for the blog that you want to enable to show AdSense ads between posts.

Click on Template tab, and then click on Page Elements sub-tab if it hasn’t been already selected.
A “Configure Blog Posts” web page will be loaded, select and tick the check box for Show Ads Between Posts setting under “Select Items” section.

Once “Show Ads Between Posts” option is selected, a “Configure Inline Ads” configuration options section will appear. Here, users can set how often the ads will appear, i.e. to show and display ads after every 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 posts up to maximum of 3 ads on a web page due to AdSense program policies. You can also choose your prefer ad format for AdSense for Content or Link Units (for ads between posts, rectangle or large rectangle is recommended), and customize the colors of background, border, text, title and URL.
